A Local Arts Festival

The 5th edition of the amazing Al Quoz Arts Fest festival and all things creative returns to Alserkal Avenue. This time around, the festival will be focusing on the medium of Dance. Creative expression through one’s body is as old as human history itself. You’ll also have a chance to take part in workshops, sit through inspirational talks and much more. The Tabla Genius Returns

This isn’t the first time the Tabla maestro is performing in Dubai. Zakir Hussain is a regular performer and loves the city of Dubai. As with past Nirvana shows, he aims to fuse western musical influences with eastern melodies in this concert. Joining the Grammy award winner on stage are ‘Tenor Saxophonist of the Year’ Chris Potter, Oscar winning guitarist Sanjay Divecha, drummer Gino Banks, Louis Banks, considered the Godfather of Indian Jazz, renowned Jazz legend Dave Holland and singer, composer and all-round virtuoso Shankar Mahadevan. Dragon Boats in Dubai?

Did you know there is an annual Dragon Boat race held for the past few years down the marina? Well now you do, and if there’s one utterly unique thing you can do this weekend, it would be this. Schools colleges and offices all team up, 20 per boat, to race one another. And what better place to do this than the newly opened Dubai Canal? Swiss Days, Yoyos and Hip-Hop in Dubai    

Swiss Days is a cultural event held by the Swiss Art Gate for the past 9 years. This time around they are bringing together a hip-hop dance troup known as Special Elements. After wowing audiences in their home nations, the award-winning group are going to push the boundaries of dance here at the Madinat Jumeirah on the 27th Jan. If that doesn’t impress the family, how about professional Yoyo artists? Inmotion are a Yoyo dynamic duo who have won European and international championship titles for their amazing skills. Cats The Musical    

Finally, the global theatrical phenomenon comes to the most fitting place in town. Cats live at Dubia Opera. This Broadway marvel has been seen by millions around the world and is one of the longest running shows on earth. The story was taken from the works of writer, T.S Elliot.
