Inside 5 Iconic Skyscrapers in Dubai - By Guest Blogger Lil One of The Ashes

Liloneoftheashes is based in Dubai, and writes about the many ways to enjoy the luxuries that the UAE has to offer without breaking your wallet. Originally from Malaysia and having spent the latter part of life in New Zealand, she enjoys the occasional ladies’ night and plans a lot of the events within her social circle - from brunches, dinners and nights out to afternoon teas and getaways within the region and afar.

In line with CitiSpi's theme, the blog focuses mainly on just that - that living here in the UAE does not have to be expensive, you can go out and socialise and have a great time, on a budget.

If you love skyscrapers, Dubai is definitely the place to be. You may be appreciating it from different angles - the structure, the architecture, the facade, or hey - the best bits - food and beverage venues as well as the spas within. In celebration of today’s ‘World Skyscraper Day’, here's a list of some of Dubai’s most iconic skyscrapers and what is on offer inside of each:

a) Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel - An engineering marvel completed in year 2000, the two towers sit on an adjoined podium which boasts numerous restaurants and bars. One we got the chance to sample just a few weeks ago is the Hakkatini Nights at Hakkasan, just AED 118 for two signature martinis and a small bite (click here for review). If you haven't been to the newly opened flotation pool at the Talise Spa, there's a deal going on till end of September for 60 minutes of flotation therapy and a 30-minute back massage or holistic reflexology for AED 390 per person! Otherwise, grab your mates and practise those vocal chords of yours at karaoke haunt Harry Ghattos between 5:30 - 10:00 pm for a 2-4-1 drinks deal.

b) Jumeirah Beach Hotel - Completed in 1997 on the Jumeirah Beach shoreline sits the wave-like structure complementing the sail-like Burj Al Arab. One of our favourite beach-front brunches is at Beachcombers (click here for review), a family-friendly affair - clowns and balloons included! You'll feel transported to Germany at Der Keller - try their wheat beer and Bavarian sausage deal for AED 69 every Friday and Saturday. Ladies’ night deals are scattered all throughout - I recommend checking out the Dhow and Anchor on Wednesdays, or coming back when it's slightly cooler for the one at Cove Beach – AED 100 for unlimited rose, cocktails and canapes every Tuesday!

c) Dusit Thani Hotel - Located in Downtown Dubai, Dusit Thani offers a great Friday brunch deal where you can dine from all three restaurants - Benjarong for Thai, The Californian, as well as Pax Ristorante and Lounge. We have previously been to Benjarong, and attended a cooking class there - I recommend you try their sticky rice and mango! (Click here for review). Prices start from AED 225 for soft drinks and juice, to AED 495 for Champagne! On my 'go-to' ladies’ night check list is Nippon Bottle Co., newly opened at the ground floor of the Dusit, offering 2 free drinks every Tuesdays after 6pm.

d) JW Marriott Marquis Hotel - Known as the 'World's tallest hotel', it probably isn't surprising to know that the two towers of this uniquely designed hotel in Business Bay has 19 restaurants and spas. Positano offers one of the best Italian dining experiences in the city, with an amazing promotion every Sunday at AED 180 per person for handmade pasta cooked a la' minute and a dessert room filled with all Italian classics - the tiramisu is a must (Click here for review). Gather the girls on Tuesdays and head to Vault on the top floor for a spectacular view of Downtown Dubai and 3 complimentary drinks - just make sure you put on that nice dress and heels! (Click here for review). An afternoon deal to share with your partner or girlfriend is at La Farine - just AED 250 per couple, not to be missed.

e) Grosvenor House Hotel - A hotel just ten minutes’ walk from home, Grosvenor House with its two blue-lit towers is one of our favourite hotels in the marina. The Embassy Empress ladies’ nights is one I've frequented one too many times with 3 complimentary drinks every Tuesday (click here for review). A memorable brunch we've done with the family is the Hola Hola Toro Toro brunch, available every Friday for AED 500 including selected beverages, and AED 350 for soft beverages (click here for review). Quite curious to check out the Cha Cha Cha ladies’ night available at the same venue every Monday! And if you're keen for cakes and tea, make sure you check out the afternoon tea available at Rhodes W1 (click here for review).
