Happy 70th Indian Independence Day to all of our Indian followers and friends! Dubai is a metropolis of many nationalities and India is perhaps one of the countries that has set the most tangible mark on the culinary scene throughout all corners of the city. No wonder, seeing as the Indian cuisine covers not just one particular style, but encapsulates several regional cooking styles and recipes that vary vastly from one another.
CitiSpi picked out some of our absolute favourites amongst the sea of options available out there, and - trust us - it was no easy task! But here it is, our celebration of India’s Independence Day.
Rang Mahal, JW Marriott Marquis
At the top of the spectrum when it comes to price point, Rang Mahal is perfect for a celebratory meal or any other special occasion. Under the reign of Michelin-starred chef Atul Kochhar, Rang Mahal fuses traditional flavours with modern flair to tease the diners’ senses and food memories. Since opening in 2012, Rang Mahal has received several awards as a testament of its theatre and excellence, and we can assure you that a visit here won’t disappoint. In celebration of India’s Independence Day they are offering a specially designed four course set menu, inspired by accomplished scientists of India, from 14-16th August for just AED 250 per person. To book your table, call 04 414 3000.
Bombay Brasserie, Taj Hotel
The relatively new Taj Hotel seems to have been doing very well in presenting new and interesting food venues since it opened. With a vibrant atmosphere all focused around the central open kitchen, the hotel’s signature restaurant, Bombay Brasserie, is a great destination for a night out with friends. Oversized art on the walls, low seating and opulent colour schemes add up to make this a truly interesting dining experience, both for the palate and the eye. Take advantage of their Early Bombay Bird that is available every day from 6pm to 8pm – a three course menu for just AED 150 per person. For the thirsty ones, they also offer 50% off selected bottles of wine and whisky on Monday and Tuesday. To book your table, call 04 438 3127.
Asha’s, Pyramids at Wafi
An oldie but a goodie, Asha’s is a popular contemporary restaurant that serves up North West Indian cuisine in a modern setting. The restaurant group, which spans over six countries across the world, was founded by artist Asha Bhosle whose love of food and music seems to have been a match made in heaven, bringing artistic creativity right into the kitchen. In addition to a great value for money business lunch for AED 75 per person, Asha’s also like to offer a cherry on top for those celebrating a special occasion. Book your next birthday dinner for four or more guests and enjoy a bottle of sparkling grape and a cake on the house! To book, call 04 324 4100.
Jodhpur, Al Murooj Rotana
One of our most recently discovered gems, Jodhpur, serves up traditional cuisine from Rajasthan with some modern flair (check out the macaron chat) and crowd pleasers (butter chicken, get in my belly) thrown in to keep diners entertained. We love how chef Pradeep has taken inspiration from traditional flavours and cooking methods but transformed every dish to make it aesthetically impressive and intriguing to the palate. And it’s not just on the plate that you are transported to another place and time. The dining room is an explosion of fifty shades of blue to reflect the city of Jodhpur’s nickname ‘Blue City’. Naya, Jumeirah Beach Hotel
A brand new kid on the block, Naya is a family-friendly restaurant that serves up contemporary North Indian cuisine in stylishly designed surroundings. Favourites on the menu include butter-based curries, roti, chappati and tandoori and every Friday, the restaurant puts on a special show with its Maharaja Feast. In their own words: take a culinary journey along the lanes of North India through Delhi and Punjab and feast like the Mughal emperors as much as you can. Now we certainly like the sound of that! Served from 12.30pm to 3.30pm for just AED 175 per person excluding drinks, this is a great alternative to the traditional Friday brunch. To book a table, call 04 432 3232.
