Vive la France! Not only did they secure a silver medal in last night’s Euro 2016 finals, but this week, France and its nationals around the globe also prepare to celebrate Bastille Day this Thursday, 14th July. And aren’t we grateful for the many exports that this great country has given us! Some firm favourites amongst the CitiSpi team include flavoursome cheeses (don’t miss our upcoming cheese workshop in July), fine bubbly grape, classy make-up brands that make us feel like true Parisian mademoiselles and of course – their refined cuisine.
So naturally, we wanted to honour France this week by gathering a list of some of our top choices for a great French dining experience in Dubai. Take your pick from a list of top end, bistro-style and brunch favourites in celebration of France!
La Serre, VIDA Hotel, Downtown Dubai
When we first heard about the ex-Head Chef of Dubai’s top French restaurant taking over the kitchen at La Serre, we were intrigued to say the least. Would it be a carbon copy of his previous haunt or were we all in for a treat of him upping the ante? We are pleased to say that his bold move only added to the already vibrant French dining scene of Dubai, with a menu that boasts exciting yet comforting southern French classics. Located inside a stunning two-storey glass facade, La Serre consists of a traditional Parisian boulangerie on the ground floor – perfect for breakfast and some people spotting - and a bistro on the first floor. We highly recommend heading to the upstairs bistro for a special occasion. To make a booking, call 044 286 969.
Bistro Des Arts, The Address Dubai Marina
A relatively new kid on the block, Bistro Des Arts is unique in that it’s located along the picturesque Dubai Marina promenade, yet it is fully licensed. The original concept came from a simple story of two colleagues, Julien and Jonathan, who are both passionate about “terroir” cuisine and family recipes. The venue has an authentic Parisian bistro feel that allows your mind to travel to a different place, along with your palate. Serving classic French dishes from breakfast through the late evening, Bistro Des Arts offers a cosy neighbourhood atmosphere to its devoted patrons. To make a reservation, call 04 55 11 576.
Le Classique, Emirates Golf Club
Having lasted a whopping 25 years on the Dubai dining scene, Le Classique has become an institution in itself. Awarded for its French fine dining cuisine, they pride themselves in offering a consistently excellent dining experience to their guests every single time. Chef Remi Verrier from the French Alps has drawn upon his own heritage to create a menu that perfectly balances traditional ingredients and techniques with an added modern twist. You can expect foie gras, escargots, sweetbreads and other delicacies to appear on the menu. And to make the most of your dining experience here, we always recommend opting for one of Chef Remi’s specially composed set tasting menus. The restaurant is currently being re-vamped and is due to reopen on 1st September. To make a booking, call 04 417 9999.
A.O.C. French Brasserie, Sofitel JBR
Named after France’s ‘Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée’ label – a mark of true international quality – the Sofitel’s all-day-dining restaurant offers both à la carte and buffet options at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Although also serving international cuisine throughout the day, A.O.C. French Brasserie have some classic French comfort dishes such as croquet monsieur, rotisserie chicken and steak and frites to please the crowds who are seeking a more down-to-Earth French dining experience. Their Friday brunch has also become a big favourite among Dubai residents, as has their breakfast buffet, which boasts an impressive crêpe station for the sweet treat aficionados. Traiteur, Dubai Park Hyatt
This award winning restaurant by the Creek offers a delicate fusion of bistro classics and French fine dining, all inside a unique setting that offers a feast not only to the palate but to all of your senses as the chefs take centre stage inside an elevated show kitchen. You may be most familiar with this spot thanks to their hugely popular Friday brunch, but it is also a great destination for any celebration dinner as they offer exquisite private dining options with their ‘Chef’s Table’ and ‘Cave Privée’, set inside an impressive wine cellar. Excellent dishes if you want to go all in are the Chateaubriand to share or the grilled seafood platter. Although currently shut for the summer, Traiteur will reopen in August.
